RHYTHM The rhythm of the night and the rhythm of the day are obviously different. To the American Indian the spectacular drama of the dawn and the sunset, each with their streaming clouds of glory, when dark and light change guard has a definite effect on his physical, mental and spiritual attitude. His personal life, as well as that of his tribe, is in tune with the infinite when he prays with ceremony at the dawn and again at nightfall. Strongly aided by the prophetic dreams and visions of the Wise Old Ones, his religion and belief in life are here and hereafter, as well as his personal life, are all paralleled by the rhythms of the day and night and the seasons. Daytime symbolizes physical life for the conscious mind and body, and nighttime symbolizes sleep and death of the unconscious mind.. This mysterious spirit of the soul of the individual is the real life and the real freedom. This mysterious spirit of the soul of the individual is the real life and the real self, which is no longer under the restrictions and limitations of the physical body.
